I refuse to do it.
I REFUSE to put medications in my body.
But this was not the case 10 years ago.
In fact, if you were to look in my medicine cabinet circa 2007, you would’ve found virtually every over-the-counter drug in there!
Medications for… headaches, indigestion, upset stomach, constipation, poor sleep, acne, yeast infections, UTI’s, colds—you name it, I always had it on hand.
But the truth is, the more over-the-counter drugs I put in my body, the worse I felt.
Thanks to one of my mentors, I came to realize that food truly is medicine.
And once I started eating whole, organic, anti-inflammatory foods (fruits, veggies, healthy fats and good quality animal proteins) and I cut out all junk foods (sugars, starches and alcohols)…
ALL of my health problems went away. And so did all of the OTC drugs!
But even when you’re eating clean, often times various stressors in your life can throw you out of balance and your body can benefit from additional nutrients to give it the boost it needs to feel vibrant.
Many of our Better Beyond 50 Members (myself included) have become interested in natural, herbal remedies to keep our bodies healthy.
So I was really excited when I met a Master Herbalist last summer in San Diego at a health conference.
The funny thing is, we didn’t actually meet at the event. We met after the event had ended.
Chris and I had ordered take-out at the restaurant hotel where the event was being held, and while we were waiting for our food, this woman seated next to me saw that I still had my event name tag on and struck up a conversation.
And I’m so glad she did!
I soon learned that she grew up learning how to use plant medicine to keep herself healthy by studying under her father, a world-renowned medicinal botanist, and she has now carried on her father’s tradition of creating the purest, most natural herbal healing formulas.
After talking with her for just a few minutes I knew that I had to have her on the Better Beyond 50 podcast to share her expertise.

Jane Barlow was born the second oldest in a family of 14 children. Her dad, Dr. Max Barlow, was a world-renowned medicinal botanist and she grew up learning how to take care of herself using plant medicine and many other natural remedies.
Jane owns and runs Barlow Herbal, carrying on the herbal formulas developed by her dad while developing many on her own for the past 20 years since he passed away.
